About the job

For a progressive company in Ghent, we are looking for a GL Accountant (General Ledger Accountant). In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimising the general ledger accounts. You ensure the timely and correct processing of all accounting data and contribute to the monthly and annual closures. As a GL Accountant, you are an important link in the team and work closely with other departments to improve financial processes.

Your responsibilities

• General Ledger Administration: Responsible for entering general ledger accounts and ensuring the accuracy of general ledger records.
• Monthly closures: Support monthly and quarterly closures by reviewing and processing entries.
• Balance sheet control: Ensuring correct balance sheet and identifying discrepancies.
• Year-end: Assist in the preparation of financial statements and perform year-end closures.
• VAT returns: Prepare VAT returns and ensure timely submission.
• Internal control: Implementing internal controls and improving accounting processes.
• Reporting: Preparing financial reports and providing information to management.
• Ad-hoc tasks: Support the finance team with ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks.

Who are you?

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accountancy-Taxation, Business Economics or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience as a GL Accountant or in a similar position within accounting.
• Competences:
  • Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and accounting principles.
  • Experience in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Knowledge of tax legislation (especially VAT) and compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with accounting software (SAP, Exact, WinBooks or similar).
• Language: fluent in Dutch, knowledge of English is a plus.
