About the job

For a dynamic company in Ghent, we are looking for a Payroll Accountant. As Payroll Accountant, you will be responsible for the correct and timely processing of wages and other personnel-related payments. You will ensure that the payroll administration complies with laws and regulations and support both the HR team and the finance team in the monthly and annual reports.


Your responsibilities

  • Payroll processing: Ensure timely and correct processing of employees’ wages and salaries.
  • Statement of taxes and contributions payable: Calculate and remit taxes, social security contributions and other relevant payments.
  • Declarations and reports: Preparation of periodic and annual returns (such as annual tax returns, NSSO returns) and reports for management.
  • Administration: Managing personnel files and ensuring accurate payroll records.
  • Communication: Answering questions from employees regarding their pay and benefits.
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with labour laws and tax regulations on payroll.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with HR, finance and external partners such as accountants and tax advisers.
  • Ad-hoc tasks: Support the HR and finance team with other administrative and financial tasks.

Who are you?

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accountancy, Business Economics, HR or similar.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in a payroll or payroll administration role, preferably within a company with multiple employees.
  • Competences:
    • Thorough knowledge of payroll, tax legislation and social security contributions.
    • Accurate, reliable and hands-on in processing payroll and personnel data.
    • Knowledge of payroll software (e.g. ADP, SD Worx, or other systems).
    • Good communication skills and customer-oriented attitude.
  • Language: Fluent Dutch, knowledge of English or French is a plus.
